OUR BACKYARD PROJECT Design Darling

design darling

BUILDING A MUDROOM/LAUNDRY ROOM BETWEEN OUR PLAYROOM AND THE GARAGE  //  This project was also part of our renovation project last winter and spring and made this house so much more livable for a family with young children. The new mudroom now connects the playroom (where we ripped out carpet, put in hardwood floors, and replaced a set of windows with a wide doorway) to the previously detached garage and loft. I actually got the idea for hanging a polished nickel train rack with additional storage space for towels from a previous rental home of ours. And I love that it gives us room to stack a few extra clean towels in addition to the ones on hooks hanging next to the shower.

Things in 1001 Days

I had ordered these Matouk bath towels for my parents last summer as a housewarming present when they moved in so it was fun to pick out a few coordinating pieces to complete the space before photographing it. Matouk makes some of the most exquisite bath and bed linens and these Cairo towels are no exception. The azure blue trim is a perfect match with the Thibaut “Bungalow” wallpaper my mom chose for the space! I ordered samples of this 3″ x 6″ white Thassos marble subway tile to coordinate with the color of the floor tile and it was a welcome upgrade from the dated square tiles that were here when we bought the house. We used the same shower head and valve trim as we did in our hall bathroom. And then I decided on these more traditional shower door handles that are so weighty and beautiful in person.

PRIMARY BATHROOM SOURCES

The next day I popped back in to Amy Berry Home for more shopping and to reconvene with Gailliot and Votta. Fueled by Whispering Angel rose and a multi-course meal by Cassandra Fine Catering, the girls in attendance stayed late, chatting all things fashion, design, and upcoming summer travel plans.

The firm reinterpreted 17th-century vitrines housing taxidermy and astrolabes into a 120-foot-long, S-shaped, compartmentalized, interactive display of the latest Google devices. Will love wearing with pants or shorts in the summer. It was my fist time ordering from this sight and it definitely won’t be my last.

Here you can see the pool the way it looked when we bought the house. It was a perfectly functional pool for adults, but as a family with young kids, we felt strongly about being able to install an automatic cover and to replace all the gravel and ground coverings with a proper patio and lawn. The brand, which is beloved for its collection of classic-preppy clothing and accessories — think Natucket-style Americana — has long had my heart. I have countless pieces from Tuckernuck in my closet; my favorite recent purchase being a floral summer dress designed by Emerson Fry and handmade in India. This bookcase previously lived everywhere from our living room in Dallas to our dining room in Greenwich and I’m so happy we could find a home for it in Teddy’s nursery. It’s the perfect spot for books, stuffed animals, and baskets filled with diapers, wipes, and blankets.

Speaking of matching the wallpaper, I ordered a custom roman shade in the same fabric and even though we rarely bother with closing the shade in this room, it’s a nice finishing touch that instantly made the room feel more polished and pulled together. I’d been coveting this Quadrille Arbre de Matisse wallpaper forever and decided to splurge in this small space. My dad installed the beadboard and chair rail to add a little architectural interest and keep things light and bright, plus it meant we could get away with ordering half as much wallpaper. We used this inexpensive beadboard and this chair rail (both painted this color) and it looks like it’s always been part of the house. RIPPING OUT CARPET AND REFINISHING HARDWOOD FLOORS  //  This was the only project we undertook before we moved in last July and it made a world of difference. You can find details on our hardwood floors, the floor stain we chose, and the white paint color throughout our house in this post.

UPGRADING LIGHTING FIXTURES

It’s such a bright and happy sight when you first walk into the room! I wish this exact piece were still available, but I found a similar style here. REMOVING CARPET, REFINISHING FLOORS, ADDING BEADBOARD AND WALLPAPER IN THE NURSERY  //  We knew we wanted to use our smallest bedroom as a nursery for our babies and it came a long way in a short period of time! You can see all of the finished space in this post. When coming up with a venue for the trunk show, we were touched by a stroke of serendipity. Interior design darling Amy Berry was days away from opening her new namesake boutique, Amy Berry Home, on Oak Lawn.

There was another long delay waiting for the company that sprays the concrete, but the day they arrived was one of the most exciting days of the project! Then they backfilled with dirt around the new shape. After relocating the stone wall that was originally beyond the old pool! This was day #1 of work on the pool, removing the old oversized concrete surround. This is a perfect piece for layering or to wear on its own. The day of the dinner — held the evening before the store’s grand opening — Berry was busy putting the finishing touches on her store, but held off on installing her full line of furniture and accessories.

Lighting fixtures are like pieces of jewelry in any finished space and especially in a bathroom that’s otherwise very light, bright, and simple. Mackenzie has been blogging on her site Design Darling since 2009. She writes about decorating and personal style, keeps a list of 101 things she’s hoping to accomplish in the next 1001 days, and share parts of her life as a mom to three boys designing a home, wardrobe, and life she loves. Since there was a lot of growth in her personal life in the past decade, it was time for her brand and website to reflect that with a new clean and elevated look. One of the biggest differences in the renovation came from moving the only window in the bathroom from the far wall opposite the door to the right wall opposite the shower. This not only made the house much more symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing from the exterior, but it gave us a lot more light since the relocated window overlooks our backyard instead of the roofline over our garage.

The cane crib was our next decorating decision and I’m so happy with how it looks in here. It was hard to get a photo without a wide angle lens but it’s absolutely beautiful in person! I wanted to avoid putting a bunch of nails in the newly hung wallpaper so we went with the floor stand option for our baby monitor (which we continue to be obsessed with — more in this post). When I first dreamt up the nursery, I imagined hanging a few pieces of art, but we ultimately decided it would actually detract from the wallpaper and opted to keep things simple.

To build the composition, hundreds of oak-clad units are assembled in vertical layers—storage boxes on the bottom, hands-on areas in the middle, displays at the top, and a cantilevering cornice at the tippy-top. One side of the wall is devoted to product placement, the other to feel-good marketing. Aidlin Darling did “a lot of painstaking studies,” Chiang says, to figure out how the electrical cables and outlets necessary to power demo products and video screens make their way through this labyrinth while remaining out of sight. This unanticipated insert has a surprising origin story. “We thought about the precedent of a cabinet of curiosities,” says Kent Chiang, principal and project architect at San Francisco–based Aidlin Darling Design.

We considered a number of different gliders and I’m really glad we went with this one in the optic white. (The exact style is no longer available but this one is similar in style and price!) It’s risky to buy a chair without sitting in it first but thankfully it’s super comfy and the color is the perfect crisp white. I topped it with this adorable appliqué pillow that matches the blue in the wallpaper pretty closely.

In place, she installed two long tables covered in blue-and-white tablecloths and china. It feels like I have loved it for years, it is so soft and comfortable. When the dinner hour rang, guests paraded in — thrilled to shop Tuckernuck’s summery wares and sneak a peek at Berry’s much-anticipated store. This course explores the features, surface materials, and design options for rooftop deck systems and provides an overview of recommended planning and installation guidelines. Softest material, beautiful color, well worth the price. I love the saying and that I subtly send a beautiful message to all who bother to look.

The next piece I ordered was this custom changer from ducduc. I knew we didn’t have space for a separate changing table and dresser, so this piece functions as both with a separate topper we can remove once we’re past our diaper-changing years. My mom and I made a trip to their showroom in New York to check out all the different options in person and decided on this Savannah dresser with five drawers, nickel hardware, and interior drawers custom painted to match the wallpaper. The quality of their pieces is incredible and the sky is truly the limit in terms of customizing each design to fit your space.

Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal 3 Mardi Gras Homeport: Complete Tour & Walkthrough

port canaveral cruise terminal

Elevators located in the parking garage take you up to the entrance level of the terminal. There are also stairs up and sloped walkways if you choose to walk instead of taking the elevator. Seating options include a number of curved metal and wood benches, row after row of airport-style seats with armrests and seat backs, as well as some small tables surrounded by movable chairs.

Port Canaveral to Welcome Disney Treasure in 2024

You can either stay on the Beachline to head toward the “B” cruise terminals or you can exit to your right to go to the “A” cruise terminals. It has over 1800 parking spaces with automated payment machines just a short walk from the ship. Luggage can be deposited at the parking garage, where it is transported by a huge covered conveyor directly to the ship to be scanned, security checked and loaded. Today, Port Canaveral is ranked as the world’s busiest cruise port in multi-day embarkations. We’ve been in the top for years, but this isn’t yesterday’s Port Canaveral and now we’re aiming to stay at the top.

Future Plans for Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal

Oversize parking for RV's and buses is also available at each Cruise Terminal. Getting to Port Canaveral — Transportation options from airports and the Port Canaveral area to the cruise port. Everything you need to know to get to the port and start your vacation.

Which Cruise Lines Use Port Canaveral as a Homeport?

Port Canaveral transships items for sea, air, space and land. Its Foreign Trade Zone is one of the nation's largest general-purpose FTZs, more than 13 km2 (5 mi2). Each year the port boosts the economy by 1/2 billion dollars. They also offer a large variety of other packages for parking or transportation only.

port canaveral cruise terminal

With five main cruise terminals in Port Canaveral, it is very important to know which terminal your cruise ship will be using or you might try to drop your luggage off at the wrong one. As you near the terminals there are electronic signs on all the roads leading into the port to direct you to the proper location. The cruise lines and ships will be listed on the signs along with the appropriate highway exits to take. In the early 1980s, a new port director, Charles Rowland, shifted the focus towards developing the port to a Cruise port.

Ft Lauderdale, FL

Better yet, you could spend a few days at Disney World or Universal Studios before your cruise. When cruising from Port Canaveral, you will have a number of hotel options. You could opt to stay closer to the Orlando airport and make the commute to the port in the morning. The cost of using these services varies base on the type of vehicle you choose but average between $60-$90. So, depending on your party size and amount of luggage, this option may or may not save you money. While Uber or Lyft are convenient and often cheaper, the issue is quality control among drivers.

From a total of 6 million cargo tons moved through the port annually, 2,7+ million tons (3 million short tons) are bulk cargoes. The port features hoppers and conveyors for loading products directly into trucks, as well as bulk cargo container facilities. On your left you will see the parking garage and parking lots. Things can get a little confusing, so we’ve included the map below to who you the path you can take to pass in front of the two terminals and then continue on to the parking lot. Assuming you are coming from Orlando, once you reach Cape Canaveral (after going over two causeways), you will see a roadsign giving you two options.

Purchasing a transfer from your cruise line is an easy way to get from the airport to the cruise terminal (or your hotel). However, transfers are often only for cruisers who've purchased airfare from the cruise line. Call your cruise line to inquire about purchasing transfers. Carnival Cruise Line sells transfers from MCO and MLB airports to Port Canaveral and back. The per-person, one-way prices are $35.99 and $39.99, respectively. Further, Kennedy Space Center is one of the most popular attractions near Port Canaveral.

Customs and Border Control to scan thousands of cruisers and their luggage faster and more efficiently. Expedited check-in desks are on the ground (first floor) level of the terminal with scanning stations, U.S. customs desks and passport control. Elevators, ramps and escalators transport cruisers and their hand luggage to the second floor where they will go through the check-in process. The port’s north side has three large turning basins for these huge ships to turn around before exiting past Jetty Park and into Canaveral Bight and the Atlantic Ocean. If you’re cruising out of Port Canaveral for the first time, or have not sailed out of the port recently, we’ll fill you in on all the details you need to know, including the huge new CT-3 building. If you've got an upcoming cruise from a Port Canaveral cruise terminal in Florida, here's where each is located, amenities, and more.

This plus the cost of hotels can make your pre & post embarkation very expensive. That’s why we suggest bundling your transportation and hotel stays with Go Port. Their Fly Snooze Cruise packages include airport pick-ups, hotel stays and transportation to Port Canaveral, making navigating the Port Canaveral terminal a breeze! ArrivalFor passenger safety, security, and convenience, please proceed directly to the Cruise Terminal to drop off passengers and baggage. Porters will assist you with your baggage, and parking personnel will direct drivers to the appropriate parking facility.

Located between terminals 3 and 10, Cruise Terminal 1 was specially built to accommodate some of the largest cruise ships in the world, including Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas. Cruise Terminal 1 is right next to The Cove, which features restaurants and refreshments. Orlando International Airport (MCO) is approximately 45 minutes west of Port Canaveral cruise terminals. Port Canaveral and the nearby area have outlets for major car rental companies, all serviced by shuttles to the port terminals. Beachline ShuttleSimilar to what’s offered by GoPort, Beachline Shuttle offers “no charge” parking, but you pay for the ride over to the port.

port canaveral cruise terminal

Port Canaveral has seven cruise terminals, each with its own unique address on either the North Side or South Side of the shipping channel. Review your boarding documents to confirm which specific terminal you should arrive at. Rates start at $60 for up to four passengers for a weeklong Mardi Gras cruise. That comes out to $7.50 per day, or less than half what the official Port Canaveral lots charge. In other words, you save about $80 over the course of your cruise by parking here. Given the proximity of the lots to the cruise terminal, we wouldn’t blame anyone for paying the higher prices.

If you require a wheelchair throughout the duration of your cruise, we recommend that you contact your cruise line for wheelchair rentals and further assistance. After getting off the ship, you’ll head down the stairs, elevator, or sloped walkway to the luggage pick-up area. One smart detail of the terminal is the introduction of large stainless steel tables, greatly increasing the amount of luggage that can fit in the terminal. During our tour we were told that CT3 can hold up to 10,000 pieces of baggage.

The number of airlines offers plenty of potential for a good deal on airfare. Here's everything you need to know about sailing from Port Canaveral, Florida. In 2008, Sterling Casino Lines ceased doing business at the port.[23] A week later, the Las Vegas Casino Line began operating gambling cruises. On March 25, 2009, the Las Vegas Casino Line filed for bankruptcy, joining the Sterling Casino on the list of failed 'Casino Lines' to operate out of Port Canaveral. What are some of your best hotels and things to do in the area?

Oversize parking for RVs is also available at each terminal. The Cruise Hive Cruise Ship Awards are an annual event recognizing the best in the industry, as voted on by Cruise Hive readers. One of the most closely contested categories is Best Homeport, which recognizes the top ports that serve as the starting point for cruise vacations. No matter whether you’re a VIP or just a regular Joe, you’ll definitely be comfortable while you wait. And when it’s time to board, you’ll head through the large double doors into the boarding hallway to the gangway. Fortunate enough to be a guest with access to the VIP waiting area?
